Procrastination Station

Last Saturday I shuttled myself off to the library in hopes of finishing all of my weekend homework early. I was very proud of myself because I felt very studious. But somehow, I ended up on Facebook. The whole point of my visit to the library was to not get distracted. So why did I log in??? That’s the one question I have been struggling with throughout high school. Don't get me wrong, Facebook is great, I’m on it everyday. It’s nice to have conversations with your friends and a site to post pictures. However, I think it is always a big time waster. I continue to stuggle with procrastinating and I just log on to Facebook to browse around. I got disappointed with myself because I did not finish all of my homework at the library. If I continue to spend all my precious free time on Facebook, I don't think I will ever learn self-discipline . Do all of you struggle with this too? Is facebook your friend or your foe? I hope to only log on every once in a while now!

  1. I definetly agree with you Caroline. Facebook really does eat up alot of my free time. I have to make a conscious effort not to click on the little 'F' on my bookmarks toolbar. The facebook is a great tool but it can be quite distracting, it is a great way to keep track of photos and keep up with my friends who go to other schools, but it is hard to stop myself from wasting time on it when I know I should be studying or working on my Perilous essay.

  2. Wow this is so true! I find myself easily distracted on my site even when I tell myself I'm just going on to check something. I love being able to share photos and connect with my cousins that I almost never get to see. However, I wish I could avoid it!!! Any suggestions on how to avoid it??

  3. None of you are alone... Facebook is an enormous distraction. However, in my own case, it's not the site that causes it, but rather my lack of self-motivation when it comes to homework. If facebook didn't exist, i'd waste time on youtube or AIM or something else. I think wherever we work, there are distractions and ways to not productively use time. When not in the presence of technology, I find doodling on paper quite effective...
Like Quincy, i'm definitely open to suggestions that will help me limit my procrastination. Any ideas?

  4. I used to use AIM. But, man, it was SO DISTRACTING! At times I couldn't concentrate on my homework because I was busy in multiple conversations on AIM. Because of that, I decided just to drop it. That is one of the reasons why I do not use Facebook. I realized that it's nice to spend time with my friends in person, but I don't need to spend every waking moment talking with them online!

  5. Caroline, you are definitely not alone. During the gold season, I didn't go on facebook that much because I had other things to do and just could not afford the time. But after the golf season, I just spend all the time I used to spend at golf on facebook, and I start my homework at the exact same time as I did during golf. Or at night I will plan to just "check" my facebook, which should only take 5 minutes and then I end up spending a half hour fertilizing people's crops on farmville. It is helpful a lot, but it is a big time waster at times.
